ViewSonic PJD5555W Review – Five Stars..

ViewSonic PJD5555WIn the tough and crowded business projector market, it’s becoming more difficult to stand out. Buyers want lots of portability, combined with a fast set-up, good quality images, and enough lumens for clarity anytime, anywhere. Projectors are constantly being released with company boasts of originality, and high-performance, but often the finished product falls short of these optimistic claims. I wrote this ViewSonic PJD5555W WXGA DLP Projector review, to inform buyers about the Pro’s and Con’s of this device; is it just another one of those projectors, where the pre-release build-up was high, but the finished product doesn’t deliver? Or is it one to go out and buy? These questions and more, will be answered here.

Overall Impression:

Size and Design:

The good news is that this projector will be very easy to transport, as its shipping weight is only 8 pounds. This is further reduced to an ‘out of the box’ weight of only 4.8 pounds, so full marks to ViewSonic for creating what is one of the most portable projectors on the market. The measurements are 9 inches of length, by 12.4 inches of width, and it has a depth of 4.1 inches, so the PJD5555W will fit into most briefcases, and all but the smallest of bags. While it’s not one of the best looking projectors on the market, it certainly isn’t ugly, with its presentable curved edges. So if looks matter, you could certainly do a lot worse.

Performance:

The set-up is easy, but buyers aren’t going to be blown away by that, since it’s expected these days. But, giving credit where credit is due, a set-up which can be done in less than ten minutes, represents one of the better offerings out there.

While it only has a native resolution of 1280×800 WXGA, so is not HD, it can be connected to HD devices for presentations or movies. Doing this will enable buyers to see images at close to 1080P HD clarity. so therefore, it’s not as much of a downside as it could have been. The PJD5555W also has SuperColor technology which further boosts the image quality up. What this means is, it has a greater pallet range than other projectors, so will be able to show a wider range of colors, in more intricate and dazzling detail. It’s smart technology, that allows for smoother images few buyers will complain about, although I must point out again that, images will not be 1080p HD quality.

A real plus point here is the 3200 lumens. Lumens allow projectors to maintain quality in light rooms, and the higher the amount of lumens, the less buyers will have to worry about things like closing curtains, or drawing blinds on sunny days. The performance of the lumens is very good, so if you’re giving a presentation for the boss, on a Monday morning, and he wants it done quickly, you’ll be able to turn on, and throw up images straight away, on all but the brightest of days.

Text quality is high and this is due to pixel performance, so viewers will be able to see clearly, the text beneath pie charts and bar charts, without having to use the excellent zoom facility. Although I would suggest you do use it, as its something to behold, and manages to maintain clarity up to all but the highest zoom ratio’s. You will see some rainbow effects on larger screen sizes, although these are not that visible, and don’t affect the performance greatly; they’re also pretty common on projectors.

Anyone who has spoken to me about projectors in the last 5 years, will have heard one of my speeches on sound quality, or lack there of. Sound has been one of the major let downs in projection of late, with very few offering cinematic sound to go with quality images. The industry has become image focused, to such a degree that speakers are almost disregarded, but the PJD5555W is an exception to that rule. It has large speakers integrated into the device, and as such is quite breathtakingly good in its delivery of sound. One of the best on the market.

As an added bonus it can also display 3D images if connected to a 3D device, and again, unlike most projectors, the 3D capabilities are good, but buyers will need to purchase glasses separately.

Final Verdict:

This is well worth the money. Ok, its not full HD, but it does have SuperColor technology, and great pixel performance, which helps create an excellent image clarity. And, it can be connected via HDMI to an HD device for something close to 1080p. It’s also 3D, and does the job of displaying text and images to a very high standard. They’ve clearly outdone themselves on sound quality, and the lumens will allow buyers the keep the office blinds open during presentations. All in all, an amazing deal.
